Frequently Asked Questions

What is AEL accessibility checker?

AEL Accessibility Checker (ACC) is a cloud-based scanning tool that evaluates a public-facing web page against automated accessibility violations. It returns the number of violations found on your web page along with an accessibility score that you can use to gauge the accessibility health of your website.

How can I test my website for accessibility?

Enter your URL in the input field, and hit the “Check website” button! It takes approximately 10 to 30 seconds for the scanner to finish processing and display the results and accessibility score. The time taken to complete the scan depends on how the web pages are built. Some factors that affect loading time are CSS and Javascript. After you see the results, you can write to us for a manual accessibility audit – that is the only true way to test a website for accessibility.

Does accessibility checker follow WCAG guidelines?

Yes! AEL Accessibility Checker (ACC) follows WCAG 2.1 Level A, Level AA, 2.0 Level A, Level AA standards. The rules are based on the W3C Accessibility Conformance Testing Guidelines (ACT). Support for WCAG 2.2 is limited with the rules that can be automated now are 2.4.11 Focus Not Obscured and 2.4.13 Focus Appearance which are covered under the WCAG 2.1 automated rules. The only addition yet to come is WCAG 2.5.8 Minimum Target Size.

How much does your Web Accessibility Checker Cost?

AEL Accessibility Checker (ACC) is completely free to use! Enter your web page in the field and Submit the form! It’s as easy as that. A copy of the report can be sent to your email if you fill out the contact form with your information.

What will I get in the accessibility audit report?

You will get the URL that was scanned, the violation, Description of the violation, the Code affected, the Severity of the violation, the failed WCAG Success Criteria, and recommendations on how to fix the violation with links to helpful resources. We can send you a copy of the report if you fill out the contact form with your information.

Why am I seeing different results when using other tools?

AEL Accessibility Checker (ACC) only scans for WCAG violations and not best practices. The difference you may be seeing can be a combination of other tools reporting best practices and using a different rule set to scan.
