ePUB has been widely adopted as the format for eBooks because of its open standards, wide range of device and platform support, and content reflow features. It works very well for the books having text and few graphic images. But, when it comes to high-quality graphic designs/ layouts, children’s books, comic books and magazines, where the focus lies on images and graphics, ePUB leaves much to be desired. For these graphics-rich requirements, Amazon, Apple, Barnes and Noble, Kobo, and the International Digital Publishing Forum (IDPF) introduced fixed format of ePUB called “Fixed Layout” ePUB for its devices.
AEL Data has expertise in developing eBooks using Fixed Layout ePUB (illustrated books) with features including read aloud, bookmark, zooming, text search, dictionary linking, background music and thumbnail navigation. Unlike the ePUB format, the Fixed Layout ePUB uses a pixel-specific page size to precisely control the layout of the objects/images on the pages.
